Turners Hill

Broxbourne

The client wanted us to investigate the potential to extend this existing building to create additional residential properties.

A scheme of 4 residential properties was developed as a concept, but we wanted to move away from the standard ‘grey set back’ floor which is so common in the UK market.

We developed an idea where the extension featured inward-looking balconies, using angled walls, to create the sense of privacy and ownership. This angled language influenced the roof, where the geometry of the balconies created a ‘saw toothed’ effect roof form.

This angled geometry also helped to create a clear visual sense of the split within the apartments – moving away from the typical apartment where apartments are lost within a monotonous building.
